"Boo!" said Max. "Yummy treats!" said Orent.

Two weeks ago, we received instructions that we had to socialize Orent to the Halloween store. Well, that's the easiest assignment to date! You see, Max's birthday is on Halloween, so it's a very VERY important day in our lives. Anything relating to Halloween is basically the most fun thing we could do.

So today, the three of us called the manager of the Halloween store on Delaware Ave, and asked if we could bring the puppy. They agreed, and we set off.

At first, we let Orent sniff the outside of the store. He was intrigued by the reflections and the masks. But mostly he just wanted more treats. This dog doesn't get freaked out by anything if there are treats around!

So we decided to lead him in. We had a brief encounter with the real manager (the person we talked to on the phone said OK, but the manager apparently hadn't), who wasn't too thrilled about having a dog in the store.
But Orent was perfect; he just sat there and looked cute. The manager said OK, and we proceeded.

We sniffed some masks and some bags of costumes, and then we found the most exciting thing ever - a Blues Brothers statue. It was so exciting, he had to sit down at the bottom so he could pose for a photo. And I mean that. He posed for a photo. I had nothing to do with it!

After our brief dog-initiated photo shoot, we went off to find a mask so we could try to pet the dog and give him treats and commands while we looked different (and undoubtedly smelled like molded plastic!).

Here's Max, with a terrifying mask. Orent may look scared, but really he's just doing what he does best - responding to commands to get a treat!

After about 15 minutes in the store with no accidents or issues, we left.

I hope Orent likes Halloween now! I mean, it is Max's birthday and we plan to celebrate with costumes for all!

Oh, on that note - should we dress Orent up as:

  1. The super grow red mushroom from Mario
  2. Yoshi from Mario (note a theme?)
  3. The caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland
  4. Superman
  5. Bullwinkle J Moose or Rocky the Squirrel
  6. Something else?
Me and Max plan to match his costume somehow, so those are our best ideas. Help, internet world, help!
